Taxiway "S"
Reconstruction and Bridge
Sky Harbor International Airport, Phoenix, Arizona
Dibble was the Lead Engineer for the Contractor on
this FAA Design-Build project and was responsible for
the preparation of studies, designs, plans, special
provision, quantities, and specifications and provided
post-design services. The project included design for
reconstruction of 2,000 feet of Taxiway "S"
from Taxiway "D to Taxiway "C",
and included the following major elements: removing
existing asphalt concrete taxiway pavement and replacing
with Portland Cement Concrete Pavement (PCCP), removing
three existing taxiway bridges and replacing with a
single multi-span bridge over Sky Harbor Boulevard,
PCCP apron extensions along the east side of Taxiway
S, asphalt taxiway shoulders, asphalt infield
paving between Taxiway S and Taxiway T,
mill and overlay of Taxiway R, fillet widening
on Taxiway T, relocation of the existing
waste triturator, roadway and parking modifications
on/around Sky Harbor Boulevard below Taxiway S,
and airfield/roadway phasing and detouring.
This project earned the American Public Works Associations
2006 Project of the Year Award for Transportation
($10-100 million) and Southwest Contractors Magazine's
Best of 2007 Award for Civil Engineering.
