Dibble Beginning Work on New, Triple Net Zero, $175M ASU Research Facility in Tempe, Arizona

Dibble Engineering has begun providing survey and civil engineering services for the $175 million research facility at Arizona State University. McCarthy Building Companies was selected to build the 260,000 square foot structure located at the southwest corner of University Drive and Rural Road. The architecture team consists of Phoenix based Architekton and New York-based Grimshaw, environmental design is being completed by Logan Simpson. The new facility will produce enough carbon, energy, water, and waste, achieving triple net-zero performance.

Projected facility completion is December 2020. This new project comes on the heels of the opening of ASU Biodesign Institute’s Building C, the third research facility on ASU’s campus, adding another 200,000 square feet. That facility will be the future home of the world’s first compact X-ray free-electron laser. McCarthy, also built Building C, working with Portland, Oregon-based ZGF Architects LLP, civil engineering services were successfully completed by Dibble Engineering.

The new research facility – to be called the Interdisciplinary Science and Technology Building 7, is designed to foster an interdisciplinary approach to knowledge generation and research, including innovative endeavors focusing on sustainability and a "Food, Energy and Water" theme.

This project is part of ASU’s $218.42 million 2019 capital plan that includes another McCarthy Building / Dibble Engineering project, the $30 Million, 1,200-space parking garage which will connect directly to the ISTB 7 facility via a skybridge.
