Durango-La Plata County Airport Breaks Ground on Terminal Expansion Project
On April 25, 2023, Durango-La Plata County Airport, Dibble, Mead & Hunt, Nunn Construction, and the community gathered to kick off the construction of the Durango-La Plata County Airport (DRO) terminal expansion with a groundbreaking ceremony. The airport is beginning its terminal expansion program with this initial Phase 1A, $7M project that will add a boarding gate and increase the seating areas, concession stands, public restrooms, and the post-security screening area. The expansion will help the airport accommodate more travelers, as passenger loads have grown nearly every year during the past decade. Aviation Director Tony Vicari said flight load factors had been reaching 80% to 90%, compared with historical levels in the 70% range.
“Designing an airport terminal is not just about building a structure; it’s about creating a seamless travel experience for passengers. As the prime consultant and civil engineer for the Durango-La Plata County Airport terminal expansion, it’s a privilege to play a crucial role in enhancing the gateway to this beautiful region and ensuring safe, efficient, and comfortable travel for years to come,” says Jared Bass, Dibble Senior Project Manager.
We are excited about continuing our partnership with Durango-La Plata County Airport and supporting its growth. Led by Jared Bass, our team will provide overall project management, civil engineering construction administration, and coordination of the DRO terminal building construction administration with the team.
