Banner – University Medical Center Phoenix (BUMCP)
Dibble provided civil design and construction administration services for this Construction Manager at Risk expansion project at the existing BUMCP healthcare campus in the heart of Downtown Phoenix. BUMCP is tied with Banner – University Medical Center Tucson as the #2 hospital in Arizona. BUMCP is a nationally recognized academic medical center that balances clinical care with research activities, and it also houses the University of Arizona College of Medicine – Phoenix. The healthcare campus provides a large number of high-risk and advanced specialty care services, as well as a Level 1 trauma center.
The Dibble team was involved in the 708,375-sf tower addition project (including a new support services building and chiller plant expansion), as well as the new lobby and pharmacy additions. In addition, Dibble supported Banner in providing a Planned Unit Development (PUD) to update zoning and design guideline criteria throughout the campus.
Through the traffic study portion of the PUD documentation, a need was identified to update the intersection at 10th Street and McDowell Road to allow for added capacity for northbound traffic. This project provided upgrades to the intersection including new traffic signals and widening of northbound 10th Street, south of McDowell. Dibble also helped solve tremendous traffic issues due to the sheer volume of traffic in this highly urban environment. These included signal timing, City of Phoenix traffic patterns, pedestrian timing, and release of traffic into the adjacent roadways during peak hours.
The civil design included site layout design, grading and drainage, new utility services, utility relocations, and City of Phoenix permitting in multiple phases. The team submitted site plan amendments for each phase of the project. We provided horizontal and vertical design such as curb and gutter, sidewalk, and hardscape for the tower and lobby expansion. Additionally, Dibble provided construction administration services for the site improvements associated with the BUMCP Emergency Department/patient tower expansion.
