Flood Control Project Manager and Hobbyist

Do you have a hobby? Tell us about it.

I have far too many hobbies, but many of them revolve around a love of food and the outdoors. My wife, Ashley, and I are passionate about international travel, and many of our trips are planned around discovering new cuisines and local food cultures. At home, we maintain a large garden that provides fresh produce we love to cook with, preserve, and share with friends and the community. Living in Colorado also makes it easy to enjoy the outdoors. I spend a lot of time hiking, backpacking, fishing, kayaking, and camping, and during the long days of warmer months you can usually find me playing softball or volleyball, or out on the golf course.

What is your chosen discipline? Why do you love it?

I chose to pursue a career in water resources engineering in the early days of high school. Growing up with a love for lakes, rivers, and the ocean inspired me to find a path where I could help protect and preserve these vital natural resources. Pairing that passion with a lifelong interest in math and science naturally led me to engineering. I feel incredibly fortunate to have found a career that is not only intellectually rewarding, but also deeply fulfilling and aligned with the things I care about most.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

I’ve been fortunate to travel to many incredible places and check quite a few destinations off my list, but New Zealand currently tops it. The breathtaking natural scenery, rich mix of cultures, and the chance to visit the iconic filming locations that brought the world of Lord of the Rings to life are the main drivers for wanting to visit!
