John Cessar, PE Airport Development Senior Project Manager and Fly Fisherman

Do you have a hobby? Tell us about it.

Running is my hobby. I didn’t always like running, but I have become an avid runner over the last nine or so years. It keeps me healthy both physically and mentally. I have completed three marathons and numerous half-marathons since I have begun running.

What is your chosen discipline (engineering, planning, surveying)? Why do you love it?

I love Airport Development because of the variety of projects that the discipline encompasses. Airport development involves everything you see, from when you turn off the highway to the airport to when you take off on the airplane.

If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?

Being an avid Fly Fisherman, my dream trip would be to travel to New Zealand. The country is not only beautiful, but it is home to some of the best wild trout habitats in the world.

What’s one thing you’re learning now, and why is it important?

I am learning to become a more effective leader. Ongoing education in leadership has helped me not only at work in my current role as a senior project manager but also at home in my role as a father of four.
