Michael “Mike” Kainer – Utilities Project Manager and Lego Building Expert
Do you have a hobby? Tell us about it.
Playing golf, mountain biking, hiking, skiing, watching sports of any kind.
What is your chosen discipline (engineering, planning, surveying, etc.)? Why do you love it?
Civil engineering. I love it because it is vital to the daily lives of everyone in society. Every project has a positive impact after completion, but it is also taken for granted. No one talks about their water or sewer service until they don’t have it.
What’s your superpower?
My son says I am the best Lego builder in the world, so I like to believe him.
If you could go anywhere in the world, where would it be and why?
New Zealand. Skiing and surfing in one day would be my dream.
If you could snap your fingers and become an expert in something, what would it be?
Artificial Intelligence and Machine Learning
If you could write a book about your life, what would the title be and why?
Just Like Mike
What’s one thing you’re learning now, and why is it important?
Corrosion Protection and Pipe Coatings/Linings, protecting and extending the life of our utility infrastructure, especially in the volatile soils of Colorado, is a key point of design for any utility engineer.
