Receives Award
The
Arizona Chapter of the
American Public Works
Association (APWA) honored
the project team by selecting
the first successful cured-in-place-pipe
potable water main rehabilitation
project in Arizona to
receive the "Project
of the Year" Award
in the Small Environment,
Less than $5 Million category.
Dibble provided design
drawings and technical
specifications along with
quality control monitoring
during construction.

Lincoln
Drive Water Transmission Main Under
Construction
Construction
has begun on water transmission
main improvements along
Lincoln Drive between
24th Street and 36th Street.
The project, which includes
new 30-inch and 24-inch
water transmission mains,
provides critical infrastructure
improvements improving
system capacity and performance.
Dibble Engineering previously
provided complete design
of the pipeline improvements,
and we are currently providing
construction administration
and observation of the
project.

Founder Passes Away
Ben Dibble September 3, 1922 to
March 1, 2010
Ben
Dibble, who founded our firm in
1962, passed away March 1, 2010
at the age of 87. While not all
of Dibble's staff knew Ben, some
of us spent time with him and
enjoyed his visits to our office.
We
understand his legacy, and know
that he made an incredible impact
on the community, engineering
and Arizona. Ben was very active
in our industry associations and
organizations and served on the
ACEC Board of Directors, as ASPE/NSPE
National Vice President, as ASCE
Az Section President in 1969 (John
C. Park Outstanding Civil Engineer
Award Recipient), as an Arizona
Town Hall Participant in 1980,
was a member of APWA, was a member
and Chairman of the Board of Health
(now ADEQ) appointed by Governor
John "Jack" Williams
from 1968 -1972, and many others.
Ben touched so many lives with
his quiet example and thoughtful
service to friends and family.

Announces LEED Accredited Professional
Dibble
Engineering is proud to announce that
Jason Mikkelsen, PE, and Geoff Stone,
EIT, have passed the exam to be recognized
as LEED Accredited Professionals (LEED
AP). The LEED AP program is managed
by US Green Building Council through
the Green Building Certification Institute
and distinguishes building professionals
with the knowledge and skills to successfully
steward the LEED certification process.
Dibble Engineering
is proud to announce that Dan Frank,
PE; Josh Papworth, PE, and Lance Webb,
PE passed the Certified Floodplain Manager
exam given by the Association of State
Floodplain Managers and are Certified
Floodplain Managers (CFM). The primary
goal of the ASFPM Certified Floodplain
Manager Program is to help reduce the
nation's flood losses and protect and
enhance the natural resources and functions
of its floodplains by improving the
knowledge and abilities of floodplain
managers in the United States.

Hope
Lane Ribbon Cutting Ceremony Opens New Possibilities

County
Gila County held a
ribbon cutting ceremony on February
27, 2009 to open the new Hope Lane in
Globe, Arizona. The Hope Lane roadway
near the Cobre Valley Community Hospital
provides better access to the hospital
for residents of Little Acres, creates
better mobility in the area, increases
safety for motorists and pedestrians,
and eliminates large vehicle traffic
on Roberts Road. The project was funded
from the $0.5-cent sales tax money set
aside for roadway improvements. Gila
County, the owner; Coombs Construction
Company, the contractor; and Dibble
Engineering, the designer, were partners
in the successful completion of this
road project.

Engineers Honored by ASCE
Dibble Engineering
(Dibble) employees, Susan Detwiler,
PE, and Melanie Sikes, EIT, were the
recipients of ASCE Western Regional
Younger Member awards. The region comprises
10 states in the Western United States
and only four individuals are recognized
each year.
Susan received the
Outstanding Younger Member in Community
Activities. She was recognized for her
strong leadership skills and commitment
to bettering the community through involvement
in a number of activities. Some of the
highlights include her involvement in
Canstruction, Project Cure, Ronald McDonald
House, Adopt-a-Highway, Future Cities
Team Leader, Future Cities Engineering
Mentor, Race for the Cure, Mathcounts,
and serving as a Phoenix Branch Officer.
Melanie was the recipient
of the Outstanding Younger Member in
ASCE Activities. She received this award
for her strong leadership skills, commitment
to the community, and outstanding participation
in AzSCE at the Student, YMF, Branch,
and Section level. Some of her activities
include serving as the ASCE Region 8
Representative on National Committee
on Student Activities and ASU ASCE Practitioner
Advisor and being an active member of
the Arizona Section Meeting Planning
Committee, Practitioner and Faculty
Advisor Training Workshop, and as the
Annual ASU Scholarship Liaison.
Dibble employees,
Adina Alpert, Christine Fanchi and Susan
Detwiler, were also part of the team
who built the "Somewhere Over the
CANbow" structure for the 2008
Canstruction competition, which earned
the Outstanding Younger Member Group
Project award for the Phoenix Younger
Member Forum. Somewhere Over the CANbow
was constructed from approximately 5,000
cans of food. The YMF team was featured
on the Food Network's Unwrapped and
was awarded Best Use of Labels during
the competition.
